My experience with the Fourth Way Pt. II
Self Observation and Self Remembering
Self observation is a principle to practice in many ways to become better aware of ones self, the decisions and actions one does in there day to day life. It is a very challenging, but a rewarding practice. I was first introduced to the principle 8 years ago, and have made significant progress. The progress I have made from observing my self is relative to watching myself do everything thing I do, from movements to my thought sequence. With every action there is a reaction, this is true, I have come to discover how true it is. As people we tend to just believe what our eyes see and ears hear, with no why or contemplating thought behind it. All my life knowing why was imperative. I could not move forward with out knowing why. Even though knowing why made life journey extremely difficult from time to time, the lessons taught became extremely useful. The discipline behind self observation is the focus. My mind used to race so much. Before I could finish a though I was already focusing on another. With this practice I was able to take control of the thing that was controlling me and my actions, the voice I heard in and out side of my head.
An interesting thing that G said that was related to self observation was “man is a machine governed by external influence”. Self remembering is identifying ones self and resisting our mechanics, which brings us back to our aim of waking up. If we are to wake up than that means we are asleep. Taking a look at that was and still can be difficult for me. A question enters my mind that every thing I was told, learned, read, was all bullshit? Maybe, I must unlearn what I have learned. What self remembering means to me is reflecting on my action and my thoughts and of course remember them. Now that in its self is not an easy task, considering with what I have encountered with my mind is that I remember what I wanna remember. With exercise comes discipline, and with work comes action. Therefore I must continue to practice what is unfamiliar to me. By practicing difficult actions I develop routines, which turns out to be not so difficult as time passes.
More I shall write with more awakening I do….
